Some herbal supplements could help lower blood sugar by reducing obesityAlthough Hydroxycut products, which were designed to reduce obesity and related blood sugar problems, have been taken off the market, other options exist for those who may want to reach a healthier weight.

Several supplements still show promise in helping to reduce fat levels including bitter orange and hoodia, according to an Allentown Morning Call report.

Hoodia has received anecdotal evidence supporting its ability to reduce hunger from San hunter-gatherers who use the succulent plant as an appetite suppressant, and animal models have supported the claim, according to the news provider.

While the Morning-Call says there is "some evidence" in bitter orange root being more effective than just diet and exercise, researchers at the University of Copenhagen said results were promising in a study on the herb’s use in treating diabetes.

By mixing the leaves and the fruit of the plant, then boiling them, they created a tea for type 2 diabetes patients to drink.

After four months of treatment, or a few cups of tea a day, the scientists noted that glucose tolerance was improved in those patients, and hope to expand the research in further trials.ADNFCR-2035-ID-19235220-ADNFCR
