Eggs may lower high blood pressure

The incredible, edible egg may have the potential to be heart healthy, which runs contrary to years of popular belief.
Canadian researchers have found eggs may reduce high blood pressure in some people and displayed evidence that the breakfast staple – known for its high cholesterol content – can act like blood pressure-lowering prescription medication.
The scientists, Jianpung Wu and Kaustav Majumder, identified different peptides in boiled and fried eggs that act as potent ACE inhibitors. According to their study with a model digestive system, enzymes in the stomach and small intestine produced the peptide from eggs. Fried eggs were shown to have the highest ACE inhibitor activity.
Wu told the Calgary Herald the study was meant to reexamine the public perception of eggs and to determine if past research was still pertinent.
"[S]ome of these studies have information from 30 years ago, so we felt it was time to revisit that, to better understand the link between eggs and health," Wu said.
While the research appears to be promising, Wu said studies with actual humans had to be conducted to determine if there was heart health benefit to eggs and whether the proteins could lower blood pressure.
