Researchers believe an antioxidant that protects cell mitochondria from alcohol-related effects may be able to help individuals maintain healthy liver function, according to a recent study published in the journal Hepatology. The scientists explained that the antioxidant, called mitochondria-targeted ubiquinone (MitoQ), may be able to intercept harmful free radicals that are produced when alcohol is metabolized in the body.
