Berries have been linked to lower body fat and tumor reductionA group of scientists recently gathered at the Berry Health Benefits Symposium where 20 researchers discussed findings on the potential use of berries in fat-burning, cancer prevention and other ways to improve one’s health.

One group from the University of Arkansas found that an anthocyanin supplement based on blueberries was more effective than the fruit themselves in limiting fat growth and blood sugar issues after participants were fed a diet that was either 45 or 60 percent fat content.

Cranberries were found to help reduce the effects of esophageal cancer by researchers at the Ohio State and Rutgers, where scientists expanded on the belief that plant-based diets limited the effects of Barrett’s esophagus, a precursor to cancer, by testing specific fruits.

"We continue to be encouraged by new research that confirms that the dietary intake of berry fruits has a positive and profound impact on overall health, performance and disease," said Dr. Jim Joseph, Director of the Neuroscience Laboratory, USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University.ADNFCR-2035-ID-19237358-ADNFCR
