Apples can be a natural appetite suppressant The discovery of a new hormone found in the stomach may lead to breakthroughs on how to deal with the increasing rate of obesity in the U.S.

After testing with rats, researchers found the substance dubbed NAPE (N-acylphosphatidylethanolamine) may help with losing weight by shutting down hunger signals in the brain, HealthNews.com reports.

NAPE was produced in the digestive system of the test animals after eating a fatty meal, according to the article. When scientists injected the rats with an extra dose of NAPE, the animals lost weight.

While it remains to be seen if the study could produce a natural appetite suppressive, there are other ways for people to lose weight without surgery or drugs.

According to NaturalNews.com, people can suppress their appetite by eating apples, pickles and green vegetables (lettuce, cabbage, bokchoy). People can also drink water if they feel hungry to hold off eating.

Earlier this year, it was reported by U.S. News and World Report that obesity rates in 37 states had risen, suggesting the weight problem in the country was getting worse.ADNFCR-2035-ID-18906433-ADNFCR
