People who are fans of soyfoods have another reason to add the products to their favorite meals.
A new study has found more health benefits for soy thanks to compounds found naturally in soy, known as isoflavones, which can increase artery and heart health, GrainNet.com reports.
Researchers at the University of Hong Kong studied the effects of soy foods on patients with a history of stroke and high cholesterol, according to the article.
Soy isoflavones have been a popular research topic for the health officials, mainly because the compounds are unique to certain foods.
"Isoflavones are only found in significant amounts among commonly consumed foods in soybeans," Mark Messina, director of the Soy Nutrition Institute, told the news provider. "People, especially women, are well advised to consume two servings of soyfoods a day."
Past studies have found soy can increase bone density, as well as assist people in losing unwanted weight. Soy is also used as a substitute for meat by some vegetarians, since it is considered by the FDA to be a source of complete protein, which means it contains all the essential amino acids.
