Hot dogs, Cracker Jacks and beer are no longer the only options available to spectators at major league baseball events across the country. A recent article published in the American Heart Association’s Heart Insight magazine has found that many newly-built or renovated ballparks are now offering diverse ethnic and healthier food items for those watching the games.
The article states that, "as Major League Baseball evolved into a big business, ballparks have stepped up to the plate to offer a wider array of new menu choices to meet fans’ preferences – from fresh fruits, local produce, and a cornucopia of salads to vegan or vegetarian versions of old favorites like burgers and hot dogs."
Many of the food choices available at different stadiums reflect the area’s ethnic make-up. For instance, at the new Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, food offerings include fresh sushi and vegetarian Asian noodles, to satisfy the diverse ethnic tastes of fans.
Regional specialties are also popular at ballparks. At Baltimore’s Camden Yards, crab cakes are a menu must-have, while fresh salmon sandwiches make the cut at Seattle’s Safeco Field.
