Increased Folate Intake May Promote Good Colon Health
By webteam • Oct 5th, 2011 • Category: Digestive HealthDue to recent regulations in the U.S. that call for mandatory folate fortification of food, researchers have increasingly been looking into how high amounts of this nutrient can affect people’s health.
A recent study published in the journal Gastroenterology found that consuming high amounts of folate may be associated with good colon health.
"The strongest association was with total folate [intake through both dietary means and supplements], which suggests that total folate intake is the best measure to define exposure to this nutrient because it encompasses all forms and sources," said lead researcher Victoria Stevens.
The investigators noted that the nutrient encourages healthy, normal cell growth and normal DNA synthesis and repair, which are key mechanisms needed to maintain good colon health.
The National Institutes of Health explains that it is important for individuals to get adequate amounts of folate, since people who are nutrient deficient may experience digestive health issues. Also, women with low folate levels may risk giving birth to premature or underweight babies who can experience a slow overall growth rate throughout life.
Good Health Begins With A Clean Colon!
Doctors and nutritionists agree that the best way to maintain good overall health is through a well-functioning colon that’s free from toxins and waste buildup. A clogged colon can lead to occasional digestion issues, as well as create the perfect breeding ground for other concerns… affect kidney and heart health… and even impact your immune system.
Your colon may be a concern if you’re experiencing...
- Occasional constipation or diarrhea
- Intensely smelly elimination
- Straining to have a bowel movement
But adding daily fiber to your diet can help you to properly and regularly empty your bowels with a decreased transit time between eating and elimination. Plus, you may have more energy and get relief from bloating and occasional heartburn.
When you experience proper bowel elimination with natural solutions, you’ll be promoting a clean and healthy colon for years to come. Click here for a simple and effective way to achieve optimum digestive health.
