Next year may be a good one for the microorganisms probiotics with multiple studies and news articles reporting health benefits ranging from better skin care to digestive health.
Dermatologist Dr. Lisa Hynes recently demonstrated probiotics can be useful with skin problems, CareFair.com reports.
"Probiotics are a shield against the daily effects of environmental stress our skin is exposed to, and we have developed a straightforward system which offers users measurable results for all skin types," said Hynes.
In other research, scientists out of Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University have found at least seven "high-quality" studies supporting the use of probiotics to avoid diarrhea caused by antibiotics and infection, OfficialWire.com reports.
According to the study, no adverse side effects were found and the microorganisms "did not diminish the effectiveness of the antibiotic, according to the article.
"With the level of evidence that probiotics work and the large safety margins for them, we see no good reason not to prescribe probiotics when prescribing antibiotics," Dr. Benjamin Kligler told the news provider.
Probiotics were also suggested by the American College of Gastroenterology as being a viable treatment for Irritable Bowel Syndrome sufferers and called for more research, states U.S. News and World Report.
