Natural foods and alternative treatments may benefit childrenChildren suffering from certain conditions may benefit from combining alternative treatments with traditional ones.

However, because it may be hard to find a pediatrician with the knowledge of both traditional and alternative treatments, a CNN senior medical correspondent has compiled a list of the top five safe ones to administer to children.

Probiotics, which was predicted late last year to be one of top health trends of 2009, has been proven to assist children living with gastrointestinal issues, CNN.com reports. While the "good" bacteria may not cure the condition, it has the ability to lessen the symptoms.

Dr Sandy Newmark of the University of Arizona told the news provider small amounts of chamomile tea may be beneficial to "cranky babies." Parents should cool off the tea and give their child a half an ounce every few hours in a medicine dropper.

For teenagers who may suffer from mild to moderate depression, 300 milligrams of St John’s wort three times a day is recommended, according to the article. However, the herb should not be used for children under 13.

Finally fish oil has two reported benefits for children: having an anti-inflammatory effect on eczema and treating asthma, states CNN.com.ADNFCR-2035-ID-18966403-ADNFCR
