The Hidden Cause of Allergies—Food!
you’re like me, you probably identify with the overt allergy symptoms of sneezing, itchy eyes, hives or runny nose. What’s odd is that allergies seem to develop in people at any age and without any obvious environmental instigator.
It has become increasingly evident to me over the years that the cause of many people’s allergies is something more insidious and unexpected than the obvious triggers such as animal dander, pollens or milk.
Symptoms of allergies and sensitivities can include: slow thought processes, lethargy, fluid retention, weight gain, headaches, sinusitis, systemic candida (yeast) overgrowth, diarrhea or constipation, bloating, flatulence, irritable bowel syndrome and many other gastric disturbances.
Food Allergies
Before an allergic reaction can occur, a person first has to be exposed to the food constituent. As this food chemical is digested, it triggers T-cells and B-cells to produce specific antibodies in large amounts. The antibody is then released into the blood stream and attaches to the surface of mast cells.
The second time the person eats that food it triggers mast cells to release chemicals such as histamine. Depending on the organ or tissue where they are released, histamine and other chemicals will cause the symptoms of the particular food allergies to occur. To get more specific, adverse reactions occur because of certain chemicals that are added to foods such as preservatives and dyes.
Some examples include yellow dye number 5, sulfites and monosodium glutamate. Although yellow dye number 5 may rarely cause hives, I have seen ADHD symptoms be completely resolved by allergy elimination of dyes (a bio-energetic technique used at my healthcare institute) or by simple food dye elimination.
I will now explain how common foods may cause allergic-type conditions that are slowly progressive and degenerative. It is through the condition called “leaky gut syndrome.”
What is “Leaky Gut” Syndrome?
Leaky gut syndrome is the cause of most food allergies. It occurs when a gut becomes inflamed and allows large food proteins, toxins of fungi and bacteria, food additives, metals and other toxic substances straight into the blood stream.
Once in the blood stream, the immune system is activated to create the adverse symptoms as listed above. Also, the liver detoxification process is impaired. A leaky gut allows for damage to the immune system of the gastrointestinal tract and thereby leads to less resistance to viruses, parasites, harmful bacteria, toxic food constituents, metals and yeast.
A leaky gut lining does not absorb nutrients properly. Bloating, gas and cramps occur, as do a long list of vitamin and mineral deficiencies. This is thought to occur because of damage to the carrier proteins that are needed for transport of specific minerals.
An example of this is the magnesium deficiency that is seen in most fibromyalgia patients. This can also occur with zinc deficiency, which has been observed to effect hair loss and macular degeneration. Eventually, symptoms of fatigue, memory loss, poor concentration, headaches or irritability develop.
Other Causes of Leaky Gut Syndrome
- Refined sugars and other carbohydrates such as candy, cookies, sodas, white bread and processed foods.
- Some individuals need to consider gluten-containing grains, especially barley, wheat, oats and rye.
- Alcohol and caffeine drinks such as diet and regular sodas, chocolate, coffee and cocoa. All of these irritate the gut wall.
- Chemicals found in processed and fermented foods such as preservatives and dyes, wine, vinegar, tofu, soy sauce, etc.
- Foods contaminated by parasites such as pork, and certain kinds of freshwater and hatchery fish.
- Antibiotic use. This causes an overgrowth of yeast and subsequently harmful bacteria in the gut.
- Contaminated foods, E. Coli and other bacteria, usually due to poor food handling.
- Beef and chicken that have been given antibiotics and hormones.
- NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs).
Treatments to Correct Leaky Gut and Associated Symptoms
In order to treat the symptoms of leaky gut syndrome, I suggest you avoid the causes I’ve mentioned above. It’s also important to eliminate yeast and harmful bacteria from the digestive tract, and the best way is to use digestive enzymes at the end of each meal and probiotics between meals.
Another good suggestion is at least 30 minutes of exercise daily in the form of a brisk walk. This simple addition to your regiment can do wonders for your health.
It’s also important to drinks lots of pure water and consume B vitamins through whole foods and through supplementation. Be sure to consume enough essential fatty acids in the form of fish oil or flaxseed oil, too.
By evaluating your eating habits, you can start to break free from your allergies from the inside out!
AND, be sure to read next week’s edition when I will introduce you to a non-invasive, drug-free testing method to help eliminate your airborne and food allergies!
The 5-Day Cleansing Program
This is a short cleansing program where solid foods are eliminated for three days, and then slowly reintroduced. The body is given a rest from the energy-consuming task of digestion, freeing that energy and allowing the body to focus on repair. The supplements and cleansing drink outlined below are to support the cells in their efforts to cleanse and heal.
Schedule
Day 1-3: Cleansing drink and supplements
Day 4-5: Vegetables, all one desires, plus 10-20 almonds (whole, unsalted)
Day 6: Return to sensible diet stressing raw foods
Cleansing Drink (repeated at least four times daily)
2 oz. unfiltered organic apple juice
8 oz. pure water
1 Tbsp. bentonite clay
Add intestinal cleaner*
*There are many different “intestinal cleaners,” but I prefer cascara sagrada, available at any health store. Only one 400mg capsule is needed in each cleansing drink. Shake well and drink quickly followed by this mixture:
10 oz. pure water
1 Tbsp. Bragg’s or other raw, unfiltered organic apple cider vinegar
1 tsp. honey
Supplements (Four times daily between cleansing drinks)
Phytonutrient tablet or a green tea drink
Vitamin E 800 IU
Vitamin C 1,000 mg
Kelp, 1 serving (600 to 1,000 mg.)
Before bed
1 Tbsp. cod liver oil**
**Orange flavored is recommended from any mercury-free brand found at your health food store.
Twice a day
Eat 1 Tbsp. of flax seeds. (Soak the seeds in hot water for at least eight hours and strain before eating. You can use the water to take your supplements. Soaking flax seeds unleashes the enzymes to start digestion so that fermentation doesn’t occur in your digestive system. It also increases nutrient absorption. Eating dry seeds can cause gas and constipation.)
Other Recommendations
Enemas or colonics are recommended at least once daily during the five-day cleanse to ensure elimination of the toxins the body is sloughing off into the colon.
Exercise daily to encourage deep breathing and the elimination of toxins through the lungs. Listen to your body and don’t do more than you can handle during this time of cleansing. Meditate or relax daily, giving your body the rest necessary to promote healing.
Keeping Blood Thin Naturally
I cannot emphasis enough the need for proper blood circulation. The ability of your heart to be able to pump life-nourishing blood throughout your body with ease is one of the major cornerstones of good health.
In order for your heart to do that, your blood must be the correct consistency to be able to move through your system. Natural blood thinners are substances that can help maintain this healthy flow. They can mimic the effects of aspirin and other prescription drugs without all the negative side effects.
It’s even been proven that overtime your body can build up resistance to aspirin, therefore negating any benefits
There are many supplements you can take to keep your blood thin naturally. Here are just a few:
Nattokinase is a potent fibrin inhibitor, reducing blood thickness and atherosclerosis of heart disease and stroke. It has been shown to help stabilize blood pressure, dissolve blood clots and prevent them from forming in the first place!
Serrepeptase digests blood clots and possibly arterial plaque. It has been used in Europe and Asia for more than 25 years. It is a natural alternative to aspirin for blood thinning effect. Serrapeptase, however, has no inhibitory effects on prostaglandins so stomach acid level remains unchanged.
Vitamin E has blood thinning effects. Daily intakes of 800 to 1600 IU can enhance the effect of nattokinase in a safe manner.
