A therapy that uses light to reduce symptoms of depression may also improve sexual function, according to new research that supports the possibility of its use for men.
At the University of Siena, scientists furthered the hypothesis that a chemical link between melatonin, the chemical that causes skin to tan, and sexual issues by testing the lights on some men who either had reduced desire or ability to fully consummate a sexual act, but who had no history of depression.
They found that when the participants were under a white fluorescent light specially designed for the treatment for about half an hour every morning for two weeks, there was a 60 percent reduction in sexual disorders, compared to no change in the control group.
A new study that would test the effects on a larger group of men could develop more information about the new treatment, the study authors note.
Horny goat weed may also help men with these sexual conditions, as scientist Mario Dell’Agli and others in Italy found that the herbal supplement helped to improve blood flow in the region.
