FDA Warns of Toxic Effects of Mercury Fillings

You read a lot of my information on toxicity and cleansing metals from your body, but did you know of one metal that could be lingering in your mouth? Millions of adults have metal dental fillings in their teeth that were done years ago. But this can be a harmful chemical presence.

A new report was recently issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that said these fillings, which are made up of 50 percent mercury by weight, can be very harmful in children, pregnant women and fetuses.

On their website, the FDA said, “Dental amalgams contain mercury, which may have neurotoxic effects on the nervous system of developing children and fetuses.” These “neurotoxic effects” mean damage to your brain!

In addition to this news release, the FDA will review the information and issue a more specific ruling for mercury fillings sometime in mid-2009. The ruling comes in response to a lawsuit filed by consumer groups who claim exposure to mercury can cause:

  • Multiple sclerosis…
  • Alzheimer’s disease…
  • Brain and kidney damage…
  • And a host of other neurological disorders!

It was once common thought that the liquid mercury contained in these fillings was, in a sense, sealed from leaking into your mouth once the filling was completed. But new research has determined that the everyday process of chewing could result in mercury vapor to be released!

Although the report said the FDA is not recommending that mercury fillings be removed from your teeth at this time, I think it would be a good idea to look into other options for clearing your entire body of chemicals and toxins. This is where my high recommendation for EDTA oral chelation comes in.

These oral supplements can not only help your body rid itself of any effects that may be caused by mercury contamination, but can also help your body safely and effectively get rid of chemicals present from all sorts of interactions and ingestions.

Going forward, I would also recommend you talk to your dentist and see which materials he fills your cavities with—amalgam or tooth-colored porcelain fillings. The FDA said the amalgam fillings contain half mercury and half a combination of other metals such as copper, zinc, silver and tin. Now that can’t be good for your health!
