Losing belly fat could reduce the risk of eye diseaseIt’s now possible that people who lose weight in their midsection may not only be aesthetically pleasing, but could reduce their risk of vision loss when they are older.

New research may have found a link between a person’s weight and the development of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the leading cause of vision loss among senior citizens, Reuters reports.

The study examined 12,515 adults between the ages of 45 and 64 for six years to see how changes in weight could impact AMD, according to the article.

With a three percent or greater drop in waist-to-hip ratio (calculated by dividing circumference of waist by circumference of hip), it was found the risk of AMD significantly fell when compared to people with stable weight, the article stated.

"Reduction in risk of AMD may be an additional benefit of reducing weight, especially in obese and overweight patients," Dr Tien Y Wong, one of the researchers, told Reuters.

While losing weight has multiple health benefits, there are some natural remedies specifically for eye health.

The herb Vaccinium myrtillus can prevent eye-related diseases. People can also eat carrots which can assist in overall eye health.ADNFCR-2035-ID-18906416-ADNFCR
