Study finds vitamin B6 helpful in fight against prostate cancerThe chance for a better survival rate with a male-specific disease may lie in a box of cereal instead of a bottle of pills.

New research appearing in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggests evidence of a link between higher levels of vitamin B6 and prostate cancer survival rates. However, it does not guarantee that the vitamin improves prostate cancer survival.

Researchers found that men with an early form of the disease with the highest B6 intakes were 29 percent less likely than those with the lowest intakes to die from the disease. They were also found to have only a 5 percent risk of dying as their counterparts with the lowest intakes of the vitamin.

"It’s well known that testosterone helps fuel prostate tumors’ growth and spread, and lab research suggests that B6 can dampen that response," says the study’s lead researcher, Julie Kasperzyk, from the Harvard School of Public Health.

The recommended daily allowance of the vitamin is 1.3 milligrams for men 50 and younger, and 1.7 milligrams for men over 50.ADNFCR-2035-ID-19375912-ADNFCR
