What About Cataracts?

Here’s exactly what you don’t want: When the eye lens becomes cloudy, your vision dims and you can’t focus. We call it a cataract, which starts as a small spot and progresses to the entire lens. When it covers the lens, the only solution is to replace the lens surgically with a plastic implant.

Cataracts are most likely to develop in people with sensitive blue eyes… who smoke… live in polluted environments… have poor diets… and don’t protect their eyes from the sun.

Cataracts are more common in older people because they take a long time to develop. According to the Mayo Clinic, about half of Americans older than 65 have some degree of clouding due to cataracts.

At the same time, younger people are getting them. Both of these aspects of cataracts are a direct effect of air pollution and possibly diet. Recent research also showed cataracts have a strong correlation with chronic obesity, the most common and preventable of all dietary problems.

Some nutrients are directly involved in cataract prevention. Not surprising, they’re the nutrients that are destroyed by smoking and sunlight—vitamins C, E and beta carotene. Vitamin C is especially important because it’s directly destroyed by sunlight. Beta carotene and vitamin E are not directly destroyed by sunlight; however, they react with toxins, or “free radicals,” that emerge when sunlight strikes the eye lens. They are directly destroyed by smoke. Depletion of any of these nutrients increases the risk of cataracts.

Sunglasses are an important preventive measure. Though you generally might not get enough ultraviolet (UV) light to burn or tan your skin, your eyes are exposed to UV rays every time you’re in the sunlight. Its effects accumulate with exposure, so in addition to the nutritional supplementation, you should always use sunglasses when out in the sun.

Don’t Be Afraid of Lower Bowel Cleansing

Many people have a mental block about lower bowel cleansing and enemas. However, when performed correctly, this cleansing technique can bring rapid relief from painful constipation, high fevers or extreme nausea.

Relieving the lower bowel of toxic materials prevents them from being reabsorbed back into the blood stream. Lower bowel cleansing takes a huge burden off of the body and allows more energy to be directed toward healing.

The following instructions are for a general detoxification. For a more specific type of cleanse, see your health care practitioner.

Step One: Make a tea using 1 teaspoon of catnip herb and 2 cups of hot water. Cover the tea and allow it to cool to room temperature. Remove the teabag or strain if you used loose tea.

Step Two: Obtain an emema bag and clamp the white hose attachment to block any liquid from flowing through. Insert the enema protocol into the free end of the tube.

Step Three: Open your enema bottle by unscrewing the white plug at the top end. Pour in the tea. Replace the plug.

Step Four: In your bathroom, near a toilet, hang the bag so it is elevated and the fluid in the bag will be able to run down the hanging tube freely.

Step Five: Lubricate the protocol and gently insert it into the rectum. If properly lubricated, it should slide in gently. While on the knees, bend forward. Slowly release the clamp on the attached hose so that the catnip tea flows into the colon. This may cause slight discomfort or a feeling of fullness. Try to hold the fluid inside the body.

Step Six: While continuing to hold the fluid inside of your body, close the valve and remove the protocol. Lay down on towels that you have previously spread on the floor. First lie on your back for a few minutes. Then turn to the right side. Next, turn onto your stomach. Then turn to your left side. Finally roll over onto your back again. This process gives the enema a chance to soften hardened fecal matter and toxins. After holding for a while (at least 15 minutes if possible), get up and release the enema into the toilet.

NOTE: If at any time you feel an uncontrollable urge to eliminate, quickly sit on the toilet and void the tea mixture. Remain seated until you are certain all of the fluid has been eliminated. Some of the fluid will be absorbed. You will not release as much as you put in. Upon voiding you will feel much better.

This simple cleansing techniques can have a profound influence on how quickly your body is able to heal. Removing toxins from your system is preliminary to your next step in rebuilding your health and vitality.

* Before starting any cleansing technique, make sure you are adequately hydrated by drinking at least one quart of fluid before beginning. These techniques are not intended for extremely weak patients unless supervised by a health care provider.

Bee Pollen Can Help With Your Allergies!

Bee pollen has been effective in the treatment of hay fever, seasonal allergies, pollen-induced asthma, bronchitis, ulcers, colitis, migraine headaches and urinary disorders for decades. Actually, this natural solution has been around for thousands of years! There is mention of the healing effects of bee-related products, known as apitherapy, in 2,000-year-old Chinese texts.

In 1972, Leo Conway, M.D., of Denver, Colorado, prescribed his patients bee pollen and reported the positive reactions. “All patients who had taken the antigen [pollen] for three years remained free from all allergy symptoms, no matter where they lived and regardless of diet,” he said. “Control has been achieved in 100 percent of my earlier cases and the field is ever-expanding.”

Since oral feeding of pollen for this use was first perfected in his laboratory, astounding results were obtained. No ill consequences resulted. Ninety-four percent of all of Conway’s patients were completely free from allergy symptoms. As for the other six percent, they did not follow the prescription directions, he said, but were still partially relieved.

It was the successful effect of this herb used by a congressman for allergies that opened the door of the National Institute of Health to fund the Office of Alternative Medicine in 1991, which later became the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) in 1998.

If you wish to try this protocol, I suggest you locate a natural food store in your area to obtain bee pollen. It is recommended that adults start with one tablespoon, twice a day, mixed in with a hot beverage or sprinkled directly on foods. After the first week, you can gradually increase the amount up to 4 tablespoons per serving.

Artery Blockage and EDTA

<br Dear Dr. Cutler,

My vertebral artery is completely blocked and my basilar has a significant blockage.
This blockage is causing TIAs that have resulted in several trips to the emergency room.

My doctor has me on four medications (325 mg aspirin, 74 mg Plavix®, 120 mg Cartia XT®, and 20 mg simvastatin), but the blockage has not cleared. The neurologist and the neurosurgeon are unwilling to operate due to the location of the blockage and the high risks involved.

Do you think I am a good candidate for oral chelation? I am 83 years old and my heart seems to be in good condition. Please help me make an educated decision! —Erwin W.

A Dear Erwin,

You may want to consider the fact that you’re taking two blood thinning medications—one is a vasodilator, and one is for lowering cholesterol in the blood. Also consider the risk of embolism with aspirin and Plavix® together.

There are many studies to support the efficacy of oral chelation therapy. EDTA works to chelate (bind) calcium very slowly, but does not break up clots or enhance embolism. With your circumstances, you are wise to consider EDTA as an option. Also, learn more about the soybean-derived nattokinase enzyme as additional therapy.

All the best!,
Michael Cutler, M.D.
