The scientists explained that the antioxidant, called mitochondria-targeted ubiquinone (MitoQ), may be able to intercept harmful free radicals that are produced when alcohol is metabolized in the body. If effective, this process may help protect the health of liver cell mitochondria. And in turn, prevent the buildup of fatty deposits in the liver.

"Previous studies have shown that MitoQ can be safely administered long-term to humans,” said lead researcher Balu Chacko. In clinical trials, MitoQ has been shown to support liver health in patients and it may have potential to ameliorate the initial fatty changes seen in individuals prone to liver health issues resulting from various factors, including excess alcohol consumption…

The 2009 Youth Risk Behavior Survey found that among high school students, during the past 30 days, 24 percent engaged in binge drinking. Prolonged consumption of alcohol in excess has been associated with a high risk of developing liver concerns.

According to a recent article published by WomenCitizen.com, aloe vera may help promote healthy blood pressure levels through oxygenation and protecting the body against oxidative stress. The plant increases blood circulation by supporting clear, healthy arteries for smooth blood flow, which may also help enhance a person's heart health.

Some people who have joint and muscle discomfort experience impaired mobility that affects their quality of life. However, the news provider reported that aloe vera contains anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties that promote cell growth and help repair damaged tissue, which may improve joint health and comfort.

Finally, aloe vera may be used for detoxification, the news source explained. Some people drink aloe vera juice to naturally cleanse their digestive systems and increase their bodies' ability to absorb essential nutrients.

According to the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the plant for use as a natural food flavoring.

Several methods of cleaning include drinking plenty of water, eating healthy foods and consuming herbs that have been shown to aid in detoxification.

A recent article published in the Lakewood Observer highlighted massages as one way to boost the efficacy of your digestive cleanse.

According to the news provider, the therapeutic treatments increase the circulation of blood and lymph throughout the body. This helps encourage cells to secrete higher amounts of toxins so that they can absorb nutrients delivered by the blood, as well as increase the availability of oxygen to these molecules.

Moreover, a faster rate of lymph circulation has been associated with decreased systemic inflammation, the news source reported.

This entire process promote the transport of toxins to the liver, where they are then processed and disposed of through the digestive tract.

According to the National Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse, as many as 70 million Americans experience digestive diseases, some of which may be a result of excess toxins in the body.

A recent study published in the journal Immunology Letters indicated a specific way in which a compound found in green tea provides health benefits, including protection against autoimmune diseases like cancer, juvenile diabetes and Lou Gehrig's disease.

The researchers explained that there are many different types of specialized cells that play a role in immunity. In people who have autoimmune disorders, some cells begin to attack others that are essential for good health, leaving harmful cells to replicate and distribute themselves throughout an individual's body.

However, regulatory T cells help prevent this from occurring and maintain a balance of the different cell varieties.

The study's results showed that the polyphenol EGCG found in green tea stimulates a higher production of regulatory T cells, thereby reducing the risk of autoimmune disorders.

The investigators noted that while there are drugs designed to provide this function, there have been concerns about the toxicity of these medications.

"This appears to be a natural, plant-derived compound that can affect the number of regulatory T cells, and in the process improve immune function," said lead researcher Emily Ho.

There are many different types of cleases or detoxification products. However, the newspaper highlighted those that involve raw fruits and vegetables, since these have been shown to not induce some side effects that other cleanses sometimes cause.

Marie Lebair O'Brient told the news provider that she uses a fruit- and vegetable-based clease to get her eating habits back on track when she feels as though she has been eating too much fast food or lacking good nutrition.

"We're starting to understand the impact that toxins are having on our bodies and their contribution to almost every type of illness that we're seeing, especially obesity and diabetes and cancers and neurological diseases. When I say toxins, we're talking not only about chemicals, pesticides and PCBs but also things we are eating," said naturpathic physician Cory Reddish, quoted by the news source.

While there has been much debate on the efficacy of these cleanses, O'Brient said that her three-day fruit and vegetable cleanse helps jumpstart her weight loss programs.

It's no wonder that many people are encouraged to refresh their bodies during this time of year.

In order to help individuals naturally detoxify their digestive systems this spring, a recent article published by Fox News highlights some popular cleansing techniques.

The news organization recommends that people drink two cups of dandelion root tea daily for three weeks. This herbal remedy may promote gentle cleaning of toxins that have accumulated in the liver during winter months.

Milk thistle capsules may provide a variety of health benefits, the news provider explained. Ingredients in these products called silymarin help rid the liver of contaminants and assist in repairing damaged cells in this organ.

Consuming the recommended amount of vegetables or more each day may promote good digestive health and revitalize the body. The news source reported that chlorophyll found in green produce helps to cleanse the digestive tract and provides energy for daily activities.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes that eating plenty of fruits and vegetables may reduce an individual's risk of developing cancer or other chronic diseases.

However, a recent study that was published in the journal Science Translational Medicine indicates that the chemical sulforaphane found in broccoli may help boost the body's production of healthy antioxidants.

COPD is common among individuals who smoke tobacco and is the third leading cause of death among Americans, the researchers explained. They said that the broccoli-derived chemicals stimulate Nrf2 molecules in immune cells, causing them to produce higher levels of antioxidants that help combat harmful peroxides and free radicals.

The study's results showed that immune cells in participants who were given broccoli sprout extract over the course of two weeks had improved bacteria-fighting capabilities. Likewise, an experiment involving cultured COPD cells indicated that the macrophages destroyed 300 percent more pathogens after sulforaphane treatment.

"This research may help explain the long-established link between diet and lung disease, and raises the potential for new approaches to treatment of this often-devastating disease," said lead researcher Robert Wise.

The plant compound, called artemisinin, was originally used in ancient Chinese cultures to treat malaria. Now, the researchers explained that the composite helps destroy cancer cells by targeting the iron within them and forming free radicals that kill the diseased cells. Moreover, high levels of oxygen, such as those provided by hyperbaric chambers, enhance artemisinin's effects.

The study's findings showed that the combination of these two treatments yielded a 38 percent reduction in the growth of cultured leukemia cells, as opposed to a 15 percent improvement that was found when the scientists used either method by itself.

"Artemisinin is a promising low-cost cancer treatment because it's specific, it's cheap and you don't have to inject it. It's 100 times more specific than traditional chemotherapy. In breast cancer, it's even better," said lead researcher Henry Lai.

However, many people may not put enough emphasis on the importance of the food group.

Researchers from Texas A&M University and Texas State University recently surveyed more than 250 people who were over the age of 50 and found that those who grew their own produce ate more vegetables than non-gardeners.

Moreover, levels of consumption were not associated with longer periods of time spent gardening or whether or not high-vegetable intake was the goal of the growers.

"This suggests that gardening intervention programs late in life would be an effective method of boosting vegetable and fruit consumption in older adults," lead researcher Tina Waliczek said.

KIVITV of Boise, Idaho, recently reported on the benefits of green vegetables. Produce in this category provides sufficient amounts of water, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, according to the news source.

Gardeners may want to consider growing a variety of vegetables to ensure a balanced, varied diet.

Wellness coordinator Erica Wald told reporters that she suggests eating broccoli to increase to increase one's fiber intake and asparagus to promote bone health through vitamin K.

However, when the weather warms up and people begin to swap their sweatpants for shorts, many may find that they want to revamp their diets.

To jump-start one's weight loss, NaturalNews.com offered several tips for healthy cleansing.

By adding lemon juice to their daily glasses of water, individuals may help cleanse their livers, the health source noted. The fruit juice helps toxins dissolve in water, so they may be easily expelled from the body.

The website also recommends cayenne pepper as a detoxification aid. The spice may accelerate digestion and provide heart-healthy nutrients.

According to the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, most adults gain one pound over the winter holidays. However, even small increments of weight gain may accumulate over an individual's lifetime and contribute to obesity, along with related health conditions.

The organization noted that about half of the nation's adult population is overweight.

Natural cleansing methods may help individuals who practice healthy dieting and routine exercise lose weight and improve their overall health.
