Joint Pain Could be Limited With Exercise in Arthritis Sufferers

Arthritis isn’t just a disease for the elderly, and researchers at the Portuguese Institute of Rheumatology say that exercising could be one alternative treatment that helps one to feel less pain at any age.
They offered patients a program of moderate aerobic exercise and strength training exercises for about three hours a week over the course of three months, with a combined assessment by both the participants and the researchers at the end.
Self-reported improvements were on average 33 percent higher than the baseline because of the program, the study noted, and the scientists found that the need for corticosteroids was reduced by more than 60 percent, and NSAIDs like Aleve by roughly one-third.
"The challenge for physicians is to provide suitable motivation and reassurance to their RA patients in order that they initiate and stick with such a program," said lead researcher Dr. Miguel Sosa.
Another alternative to those with joint pain could be antioxidants like those found in cherries.
Scientists at Baylor Research Institute found that a pill with tart cherry extract could also help provide patients with increased mobility after two months.
