White tea can help slow aging and fight inflammationA group of scientists tested the health benefits derived from extracts of 21 plants and herbs, and they found that white tea was the most beneficial.

The Kingston University team performed tests on the extracts that focused on their ability to protect collagen and elastin, which are proteins found throughout the body, particularly the skin. "Elastin supports the body’s natural elasticity which helps lungs, arteries, ligaments and skin to function. It also helps body tissue to repair when you suffer wounds and stops skin from sagging," said Declan Naughton, a professor at Kingston.

White tea was found to prevent enzyme activities that damage collagen and elastin. These activities are normal, but can increase the risk of inflammation in people who suffer from rheumatoid arthritis (RA). By taking white tea, the risk can be reduced.

Collagen and elastin are part of what makes skin appear young and wrinkle-free, so white tea may also help maintain a youthful appearance. The researchers also suspect that when combined with high levels of antioxidants, the tea can also help prevent cancer and heart disease.

Antioxidants are useful in anti-aging treatments in their own right. Supplements containing antioxidants such as Coenzyme Q10, vitamin C and vitamin E may also be of help, as they can neutralize free radicals that can damage cellular tissue and genetic material.ADNFCR-2035-ID-19314622-ADNFCR
