Alternative remedies may help improve the effects of muscle painAmericans who suffer from muscle pain may want to consider including alternative treatments to remedy the pain after an FDA advisory panel recommended lowering the maximum dosages of popular pain relievers due to concerns over liver damage.

Acetaminophen is a chemical used to relieve pain in many over-the-counter products, but the group recommended limiting the maximum dosage in pills to 650 milligrams as well as limiting the daily intake recommendations to less than 4 grams in total, according to U.S. News and World Report.

One alternative to the pills may be acupuncture which researchers at the Group Health Center for Health Studies found to help adults with lower back pain.

Sixty percent of the patients in the trial conducted by the scientists experienced benefits, an increase of 20 percent over those who received care under standard guidelines.

"Various methods of acupuncture point stimulation appear to be reasonable options," wrote the study authors, including a no-needle option that used toothpicks to simulate the effects of the treatment.ADNFCR-2035-ID-19246558-ADNFCR
