Probiotics may help seniors with their digestive healthAt an upcoming nutrition conference in March, a doctor will present research stating the beneficial aspects of probiotics on the aging digestive system.

Dr Tommy Tomizawa, an assistant professor at the David Geffen Medical Center of UCLA, is scheduled to speak at the Nutra Conference in March on how probiotics can improve one’s immune system, decrease the incidence of geriatric constipation and possibly prevent certain types of malignant cancers.

"What is astonishing about these research results is that they indicate probiotics may have the ability to alter the body’s aging processes in a favorable way," Tomizawa said.

With regular probiotic use, some people may be able to avoid developing colon cancer, according to the doctor. Ninety percent of these cancer cases occur in people age 50 and older.

Past research has shown the benefits of probiotics on one’s digestive health and it was named one of the top health trends of 2009 last December.

A study from last year found patients on antibiotics who took probiotics with their medication experienced fewer digestive problems when compared to those who did not take the dietary supplement.ADNFCR-2035-ID-19027745-ADNFCR
