Children with poor diets less likely to be taking vitaminsChances are if your child is not taking vitamins, then they probably need it.

A new study has found the children who would benefit the most from nutritional supplements, possibly because of a poor diet, rarely get them, the New York Times reports.

Dr. Ulfat Shaikh, lead author of the study, told the news provider the research found children who did get vitamins, already drank a lot of milk, ate a lot of fiber and had a healthy diet.

"We hypothesized that people who use minerals and vitamin supplements might be using them to cushion the effects of poor nutrition. We actually found the opposite," Shaikh said.

According to the research, the healthier children tended to be white, have health insurance and came from upper-income families. They also got a lot of exercise and reportedly didn’t spend too much time with television or video games.

"Poverty seems to be the overriding factor. Parents who were poor were perhaps unable to afford supplements," Shaikh said.

Worried parents may want to look into nutritional supplements for vitamins C and D, which can be the most beneficial for growing children.ADNFCR-2035-ID-19006129-ADNFCR
