Study finds people with less stress tend to age betterWhile it’s been known genetics plays a role in how a person ages, a new study suggests environmental factors may add more years to one’s face.

The study, which was published in the journal Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery found factors such as divorce and the use of antidepressants may be the reason a person sees more lines on their face when they look in the mirror.

"Likewise, if you avoid those factors you can slow down the hands of time," Dr. Bahaman Guyuron, study author, said.

Researchers looked at a total of 186 pairs of identical twins and used comprehensive questionnaires and digital images in the study. The pictures were then reviewed by an independent panel, which recorded the perceived age difference between the siblings.

The study found twins who had been divorced appeared approximately two years older than their siblings who were still married, single or even widowed. It was also found anti-depressant use and weight played a role in perceived age.

"The presence of stress could be one of the common denominators in those twins who appeared older," Guyuron said.

Many people have turned to nutritional supplements to combat symptoms of stress.ADNFCR-2035-ID-19009576-ADNFCR
