Stressful time for the employed

Some people who survived the significant amount of layoffs last year have found keeping their job adds more stress in their life.
Tom Moore, professor at East Tennessee State University, said employees still at their job may feel guilty for having a job while others push themselves to work harder to avoid being the next cut, Timesnews.net reports. And those who may want to quit, can’t because the weakening economy has made it difficult to find other work.
"At this point it’s more about hanging on to what they have, because the potential for loss is greater by leaving," Moore told the news provider.
Moore added a possible conduit for high stress levels was ambiguity since "during times of economic uncertainty and layoffs, workers oftentimes find their jobs and their roles change," according to the article.
"They don’t know exactly what the next day is going to hold for them, so that is one of the primary causes of stress – ambiguity," said Moore.
Last Friday it was reported an additional 525,000 jobs were lost in December, which brought the country’s unemployment rate to 7.2 percent.
People interested in decreasing the stress they feel at the workplace may want to look into natural supplements.
